Progress With Pakistan 'not Insignificant': Indian P.M.

NEW DELHI, Sept 4 (AFP) - Progress in ongoing peace talks with Pakistan has been "not insignificant" and the process can be sustained, Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said Saturday.
"We are a government that is only 100 days old and in this short period of time we have ... (completed) the composite dialogue," Singh told his first media conference since taking office on May 22.
"What we have achieved in that time is not insignificant. It is our intention to carry forward the dialogue process," he said.
Indian and Pakistani foreign ministers meet in New Delhi Sunday and Monday in the first ministerial-level talks on Kashmir in three years.
"Even though I can't say that I have any path-breaking statement to make, progress has to be made step by step," Singh said.
"We are approaching the forthcoming visit of the foreign minister of Pakistan with confidence and the feeling that the dialogue process can be sustained.
"We are in favour of all possible measures that will promote greater cooperation and understanding between our two countries."
