Britain's Blair Sends Message Of Support To Clinton

LONDON, Sept 3 (AFP) - British Prime Minister Tony Blair has sent a message of support to former US President Bill Clinton following news he is to undergo heart surgery, Blair's office said on Friday.
"The Prime Minister has just heard and is sending a personal message," a Downing Street spokesman said, giving no further details.
Clinton was admitted to a New York hospital earlier on Friday, with several television networks saying the 58-year-old needs quadruple bypass surgery, although this has not been confirmed by his family or aides.
Although it is reported Blair gets on better with Clinton's successor, George W. Bush, Blair and the former president worked closely together from mid-1997 when Blair was elected until Clinton stood down in early 2001.
Last year Clinton sparked controversy over Blair's own heart when he said the prime minister had discussed a heart condition with him several years previously.
But Blair, who suffered an irregular heartbeat last October, insisted this had happened only once.
