Kerry Says Bush And Cheney 'refused' To Go To Vietnam

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio, Sept 2 (AFP) - Democratic presidential contender on Thursday launched a furious riposte to attacks by Republican President George W. Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney saying they had "refused" to serve in the Vietnam war.
"I'm not going to have my commitment to defend this country questioned by those who refused to serve when they could have and by those who have misled the nation into Iraq," Kerry was to say in a speech, according to excerpts released by his campaign.
The attack came ahead of Bush's closing speech to the Republican national convention and after Cheney said that Kerry has "made the wrong call on national security".
The Republican convention has seen a series of attacks on Kerry's national security credentials.
