WARSAW, Sept 1 (AFP) - Jordan's King Abdullah II began a two-day visit to Poland Wednesday for talks dominated by the situation in violence-wracked Iraq and bilateral trade cooperation, officials said here.
He met with Poland's President Aleksander Kwasniewski late Wednesday after a round-table with Polish businessmen and was later to hold talks with Prime Minister Marek Belka.
"Jordan, a neighbour of Iraq, can contribute in an important manner to finding solutions to Iraqi problems and participating in the reconstruction of this country," Polish presidential aide Andrzej Majkowski said.
Poland, a key ally of Washington since the US-led invasion of Iraq in March 2003, heads a multinational force of 6,500 administering a swathe of Iraq south of Baghdad to which it has sent 2,500 of its own troops.
Warsaw also wants to develop its economic relations with Amman, Majkowski was quoted as saying by PAP.
The two countries had a trade balance of 25 million dollars last year but "this is on the rise," the official added.
King Abdullah travels to Russia on Thursday for talks with President Vladimir Putin.
