MOSCOW, Sept 1 (AFP) - The death toll from a suicide blast outside a Moscow subway station was revised downward to nine late Wednesday, Interfax news agency reported.
Late Tuesday a female suicide bomber blew herself up outside a busy Moscow underground station, in an attack claimed by a group that said it downed two planes in Russia last week.
An official at Moscow's health department told Interfax late Wednesday that nine people had died in the blast, which caused scenes of carnage in the late evening rush Tuesday.
Earlier in the day, hospital officials were quoted by ITAR-TASS as saying that two more blast victims had died from their wounds.
But an Interfax report later quoted hospital officials as saying that the dead had not been injured in the subway explosion.
In the latest declaration on the blast, the city's health department said 36 people, including two children, were still hospitalised in various facilities in the Russian capital.
The prosecutor's office had earlier announced that the body of five victims had so far been identified.
The blast was claimed by the same group that said it was responsible for the downing of two passenger jets on August 25 that had left all 90 people on board dead.
