BEERSHEVA, Israel Aug 31 (AFP) - A total of 16 people, as well as two bombers, are now known to have been killed in a twin suicide attack on two buses in the southern Israeli city of Beersheva on Tuesday, police said.
Medical sources said that more than 80 people had also been wounded in the explosions, the worst such attack in Israel since a massive suicide bombing in a restaurant in the northern port city of Haifa in October last year.
The radical Palestinian group Hamas claimed responsibility for the attack.
The latest deaths brought to 4,270 the number of people killed since the start of the Palestinian intifada or uprising in September 2000.
