Turkish Police Prevents A Possible Assassination By Defusing Bomb In Diyarbakir

DIYARBAKIR - Turkish police prevented a possible assassination of high-level officials and commanders by defusing bombs placed in a suspicious package in southeastern province of Diyarbakir, Governor's Office said on Monday.
A statement of Diyarbakir Governor's Office said that police received some tip-offs that a bombed attack would be staged by terrorist organizations against the governor and commanders who would join August 30th Victory Day celebrations.
The statement noted, ''at the end of their investigation, bomb experts said that remote-controlled explosives were placed in a suspicious package on the route where celebrations will be held. The mentioned explosives were defused by experts. Thus, police prevented a possible assassination against high-level officials and commanders. Efforts are under way to arrest the assailants.''
Earlier, sources said that three remote-controlled bombs prepared by the terrorist organization PKK/Kongra-Gel had been defused in this southeastern province of Turkey.
