GEBZE - Turkish Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah Gul said on Monday that Turkey was a sincere friend of Iraq, noting that those who harmed Turks should think once again.
Gul attended ceremonies to mark August 30 Victory Day in Gebze town of northwestern Izmit province.
Replying to questions of reporters, Gul said, ''two engineers who were earlier taken hostage in Iraq have been released as a result of our initiatives. There are many Turkish citizens in Iraq. Those people meet basic needs of Iraqi people. If there is a normal life in Iraq today, Turks have also contributions to it. Turkey is a sincere friend of Iraq. Those who harm Turks should think once again. On the other hand, it is not true that there are six Turks who are kept hostage in Iraq.''
