NEW YORK, Aug 27 (AFP) - More than half of New Yorkers wish Republicans had taken their convention in another city, according to a poll out Friday.
The New York Times-CBS News poll showed that 52 percent of New Yorkers disliked the notion of holding the Republicans convention here, while 41 percent thought it was a good idea.
The convention, which opens Monday, is to be held at Madison Square Garden August 30 through September 2.
Twenty percent of the 1,096 respondents said they were very worried about a terror attack, while 33 percent were somewhat worried. Still, 21 percent were "not worried at all," according to the poll, taken August 20-25.
Despite the inconvenience of beefed-up security, the average New Yorker will not seek refuge elsewhere. Just 13 percent will leave Gotham, and 84 percent will stay put.
Eighteen percent said they were very worried about the large number of protests set for the convention; 30 percent worried somewhat; 29 percent worried not much; and 21 were not worried at all.
Just seven percent said they themselves would protest, while 89 percent did not plan to.
