TATNEFT WANTS TO STAY IN TURKEY
Tatarstan, which is getting prepared for a great promotion at Izmir International Fair with the participation of the Tatar President and Russian President, will explain that it is ready for other cooperations besides with the Turkish Oil Refineries Corp (Tupras). Stressing the special importance which they attributed to Tupras, Turkey representative of Tatarstan Ramil Mavlyutov said that they are expecting the decision of court on privatization of Tupras but they will remain operating in Turkey even if Tupras is privatized.

ALLAWI'S VISIT TO ANKARA POSTPONED
Iraqi Prime Minister Ayad Allawi's visit which is planned to be paid to Ankara in September, was postponed. Allawi was expected to come to Ankara following the visit of Iraqi President Ghazi al-Yawr. Foreign Ministry officials said that Allawi will not visit Ankara due to his busy schedule.

OZKOK: IRAQ IS LIKE VIETNAM
Chief of General Staff Hilmi Ozkok said that they are following the events in Iraq closely and added that when the events in Baghdad are considered, Turkey is pleased with its present position. When reporters asked whether Iraq resembles Vietnam, Ozkok said that it resembles Vietnam in terms of determination and resistance of people, but not in geographical and military terms. He added that an exiting strategy is made before entering a place, but it cannot be applied all the time and Turkey does not know the exiting strategy of the United States.

GOLDEN STEP FROM ELVAN
Our national athlete Elvan Abeylegesse, who gained strength quickly after her disappointment in 5000 meters, qualified to final in women's 1,500-meter at the 28th Summer Olympic Games by finishing fourth in the semi-final. She will compete in finals at 08.00 p.m. tomorrow.

TRIPS OF BOGAZICI AND BASKENT EXPRESSES STOP
Turkish State Railways (TCDD) stopped trips of Baskent and Bogazici Expresses because there has been a serious decrease in the number of passengers following the train accidents in Pamukova and Tavsancil. TCDD officials said that the number of passengers decreased sharply in all train services, particularly the Baskent and Bogazici Expresses.

SIX FOREST WORKERS BURNED TO DEATH
Six forest workers trapped in flames during a forest fire in Gundogmus town of southern Antalya province. They burned to death when flames changed direction under strong winds.

OUR HEART WITH ELVAN ON SATURDAY
Turkish national athlete was ranked the fourth and qualified for finals in 1,500-meter at the 28th Summer Olympic Games. Elvan disappointed Turkey in 5,000 meters. She will vie for gold medal on Saturday. Elvan said, ''I thank Turkey. Everybody supports me.''

BRONZE MAN OZAL
Mehmet Ozal of Turkey beat his Iranian opponent Mesud Hashimzade 3-2 and won bronze medal in men's 96 kg Greco-Roman wrestling at the 28th Summer Olympic Games in Greek capital Athens.

According to ''economic barometer'' survey by the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB), business world is not pleased with the economy policies which have been implemented until now. However, it is still optimistic about the second half of 2004.

COMPANIES WITHDRAW FOR HOSTAGES IN IRAQ
Deadline is about the end for release of two Turkish engineers who were kidnapped in Iraq two days ago. The companies of the engineers started to withdraw from Iraq. The militants wanted companies of two engineers, Ali Daskin and Abdullah Ozdemir, to withdraw from Iraq within 72 hours otherwise they will kill the engineers. Upon this warning, Usluel and SARA companies decided to leave Iraq.

EU SUMMIT FROM AK PARTY
Justice and Development Party (AK Party) Istanbul Provincial Group will host 2,500 people in Istanbul under preparations for the European Union (EU). World-wide famous names like Beckenbauer and F1 pilot Schumacher are among those names.

ELVAN IN FINAL
Turkish national athlete Elvan Abeylegesse the final of women's 1,500-meter at the 28th Summer Olympic Games. Elvan was shocked when she was ranked the 12th in 5,000 meters on August 23rd and she had earlier announced that she would not join 1,500 meters qualifying round.

ONE TERRORIST CAPTURED IN NUSAYBIN
One member of PKK/Kongra-Gel terrorist organization was captured near Beyazsu district of Nusaybin town of eastern Mardin province. The terrorist had planted land mines on the road and killed 7 soldiers last year.

CAPACITY UTILIZATION BREAKS RECORD WITH 82.8 PERCENT
The rate of capacity utilization rose to 82.8 percent in the second quarter of 2004 and broke the record of recent years. Turkish State Institute of Statistics (SIS) stated that rate of capacity utilization, that is weighted by production value, increased from 78.1 to 82.8 percent in the second quarter of 2004, from the primarily provisional results provided by 2,347 large scale manufacturing industrial establishments.

25 SUSPICIOUS INCIDENTS AT RAILWAYS
Suspicion about sabotage has been increased about the train accidents. Transportation Minister Binali Yildirim said that there are 25 suspicious incidents at railways in recent days. He added that they did not undervalue terror and sabotage possibility in train accidents which happened continuously.

GENCLERBIRLIGI AT LAST MOMENT
Genclerbirligi soccer team qualified for the next round 2-2 on the aggregate although it was beaten by Rijeka of Croatia 2-1 in the UEFA Cup second qualifying round second leg in Rijeka.
