U.S. Thanks Pakistan For Anti-terror Efforts

ISLAMABAD, Aug 26 (AFP) - The United States thanked Pakistan for its help in fighting terrorism in talks here Thursday between senior officials on international security and bilateral cooperation, an official statement said.
US Assistant Secretary of State for political and military affairs Lincoln P. Bloomfield met Pakistan foreign office additional secretary Tariq Osman Hyder.
"Both sides discussed international security issues and bilateral cooperation between the two countries," the statement said, without elaborating.
Bloomfield "conveyed the United States' appreciation of Pakistan's contribution to the war on terrorism in which the two countries are working closely together."
Pakistan, a key US ally in the almost three-year-old war on terrorism, has captured more than 500 Al-Qaeda suspects and handed most of them to US custody.
It intensified its efforts in mid-July, since when Pakistani security forces have picked up around 70 Al-Qaeda suspects including some key operatives of Osama bin Laden's terror network.
