RIYADH - Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Conference Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu on Saturday urged the international community to take serious and urgent action to put an end to the Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people and its disregard for human values, laws and international treaties that criminalize the targeting of civilians.
In a statement, Ihsanoglu condemned the ugly massacre committed by Israel against unarmed civilians in the Gaza Strip earlier in the day, killing more than 150 people and injuring 200 others, saying the massacre forms as a war crime and reflects Israel's disregard of the international law and the Fourth Geneva Convention for the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War.
He called on the national Palestinian factions to start immediately a serious national dialogue to restore national cohesion, get out of the state of division and face the difficult circumstances affecting the Palestinian cause.
Ihsanoglu said an urgent meeting of the Executive Committee of the Organization of the Islamic Conference would convene at the ministerial level to discuss the situation in the Gaza Strip, calling for the reintroduction and installation of the truce and avoid targeting civilians.
