DAMASCUS - A Turkish state minister said on Sunday that regional cooperation could help countries fight financial crisis.
Turkey's State Minister & Deputy Prime Minister Nazim Ekren defined regional cooperation as an important mechanism to cope with global financial crisis.
Ekren underlined importance of bilateral and regional cooperation in an informative meeting he had with Syrian Deputy Prime Minister Abdallah al-Dardari and Syrian bureaucrats in Damascus, Syria.
In the meeting, the participants discussed all factors that had direct and/or indirect impact on economic and commercial relations, and elements that helped boost economic relations.
The Turkish minister said that Turkey and Syria reached a decision in principle to share information about public management, financial discipline, budget management, transparency and taxation, and defined opening a branch of a Turkish bank in Syria as an important step.
Ekren also said that global cooperation could have two important results.
"Countries that cooperate can have the opportunity to manage their capabilities and resources in a more effective way, and manage the alternative costs in a better way," he said.
Ekren also said that a well-established regional cooperation would help the integration process of those countries to the global system.
Also, Turkey's Treasury Undersecretary Ibrahim Halil Canakci and his Syrian counterpart signed a memorandum of understanding on regional cooperation and share of experience and techniques on Sunday in Damascus.
