ISTANBUL - Turkish Transportation Minister Binali Yildirim had a meeting with Russian Transportation Minister Igor Levitin in Istanbul on Wednesday.
After the closed-door meeting, Yildirim told reporters that there has been a significant improvement in the area of transportation between Turkey and Russia. "We agreed that main principles of road transportation between the two countries should be determined by taking into consideration of increasing trade volume. The delegations of the two countries will work on this matter," he said.
Work on the agreement which envisaged running train-ferry lines between Samsun (Turkey)-Kavkaz (Russia), Samsun-Novorossiysk and Derince-Kavkaz-Novorossiysk has been under way, he said.
Russian Transportation Minister Levitin said his meeting with Yildirim was fruitful and the two countries would sign the agreements mentioned by Yildirim in 2009.
