Anti-Bush Demonstrators Denied Access To Central Park

NEW YORK, Aug 25 (AFP) - Demonstrators planning to hold a rally to protest the upcoming Republican National Convention have been denied access to New York`s Central Park next Sunday, organizers said Wednesday.
The group United for Peace and Justice still has an agreement with New York authorities for a legal, peaceful march past Madison Square Garden, the site of the Republican convention.
But organizers wanted to end it by holding a rally in Central Park, a plan that has long been opposed by city officials, who say the rally will disturb recreational activities by other citizens and damage the park`s lawns.
The group lodged its complaint with the Supreme Court of the state of New York, but it was rejected by a judge.
The organizers, who expect at least 100,000 marchers Sunday, are now pondering how the event will end.
Long-time peace activist Bianca Jagger, a former wife of Rolling Stones lead singer Mick Jagger, and actor Denny Glover are expected to take part in the protest.
