Lufthansa To Cut Jobs In Cargo Unit

FRANKFURT, Aug 25 (AFP) - Lufthansa Cargo, the air freight division of German flag carrier Lufthansa, said Wednesday it planned to cut one in every 10 jobs by 2006 as part of a programme to boost bottom-line earnings by 233 million euros (282 million dollars) per year.
The cuts, equivalent to the loss of around 480 full-time jobs, would primarily concern management and administration positions, Lufthansa Cargo chief Jean-Peter Jansen said.
The cuts would be achieved primarily via attrition and without the need for redundancies, Jansen said.
In addition, negotiations would begin shortly with unions about greater flexibility in working hours, he added.
