Chechen Refugees And Neighbours In Punch Up In Poland

WARSAW, Aug 25 (AFP) - Several people were injured at the weekend in a punch up between a group of Chechen asylum seekers living in a refugee centre near Warsaw and their neighbours, a Polish official said on Wednesday.
"During the fight several people were slightly injured but nobody was taken to hospital," Jan Wegrzyn, the director of the Polish office dealing with foreigners and repatriations, told AFP.
"After the fight a group of young people threw a Molotov cocktail at the night shelter early on Sunday," he said. "This fight was not racially motivated," he added.
A police probe established that a group of Chechen children had sparked the trouble when they went stealing plums from nearby allotments.
Police have arrested five inhabitants of Moszna, where the shelter is located, who are suspected of taking part in the fight. They ahve also tightened controls around the shelter, which houses 100 Chechen refugees.
Of the 2,000 asylum seekers currently in Poland, around 90 percent say they are Chechens, Wegrzyn said.
