LONDON - Turkish State Minister Mehmet Simsek said Tuesday that the European Union could serve as an important anchor for Turkey.
"I believe that the EU membership is going to be for Turkey's good but we are not obsessed about it. We just want to create a strong anchor for our country which has a very complicated political structure. We need a strong anchor and the support of our friends," Simsek told a meeting at the Turkish-British Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
"We are telling our European friends that we are doing Turkey's transformation for the sake of Turkish people," Simsek said.
