MHP: WE HAVE TO BE CAREFUL ABOUT TRAPS
Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) chairman Devlet Bahceli said Turkey has been going through a period full of malicious traps. Bahceli said there had been an escalation in ethnic provocations in the country in the recent period. Turkey has been at a historic junction in fight against terrorism and ethnic separatism, he said.

MINISTRY SEIZES COURTROOM PROBLEM
Justice Minister Mehmet Ali Sahin has sent two high level ministry officials to Silivri as the case of the century began with courtroom controversies. Sahin said court board was responsible for the order of the hearing but added, "we can help if they ask for a new courtroom."
"Every defendant has 8 or 10 lawyers. They all came to the court," Sahin summed up the cause of the problem.

CONSTITUTIONAL COURT IGNORES PARLIAMENT'S AUTHORITY
Constitutional Court has announced the reasoning of its overruling decision on the constitutional amendment that expanded educational freedom in universities. The court ignored Article 148 of the Constitution that says constitutional amendments shall be examined and verified only with regard to their form. Top court restricted the authority of the parliament.

FORMER SPECIAL OPS OFFICER SAYS POLITICIANS ORDERED KILLINGS
A former police officer with the special operations unit said they had killed over a thousand people upon the orders from politicians amid public debates about what is publicly known as Ergenekon case, a suspected criminal network with alleged ties to the military and bureaucracy in Turkey. "Politicians gave the order and we pulled the trigger on behalf of the state," Ayhan Carkin told a televised interview. "Ergenekon is holding the reigns of the whole country just a like a giant octopus. One of its arms reaches to the PKK and another arm to Hezbollah," he said.

FENERBAHCE SURRENDERS FORT KADIKOY
Turkey's Fenerbahce soccer team were defeated on Tuesday at their home in Istanbul for the first time in 15 matches at the European arena. The Canaries tasted a bitter salvo from England's Arsenal with 2-5. Fans reacted severely to the coach, Luis Aragones.

FORMER PROSECUTOR UNDER POLICE CUSTODY IN ERGENEKON CASE
Ertac Giray, a forme prosecutor was taken under custody Tuesday morning under what is publicly known as Ergenekon probe, a suspected criminal network with alleged ties to the military and bureaucracy in Turkey. Police searched Giray's house and impounded part of his electronic archives. Giray had offered legal consult to a number of other Ergenekon suspects who were detained earlier.

U.S. DOLLAR HIGHEST IN TWO YEARS
U.S. dollar made a peak on Tuesday in over two years and climbed as high 1.57 YTL as a global financial crisis continued to shake world markets. The U.S. currency gained 35 percent in value since January 2008 and 27.8 percent in three weeks.

HARSH WARNING FOR HEADSCARF
The Constitutional Court announced its detailed decision regarding a ruling to annul a law adopted by the parliament that would have allowed wearing headscarves at university campuses. The court said in the decision that the Constitution does not allow abuse of matters considered sacred by the religion.

MGK: TERRORISM WILL BE ELIMINATED ON BASIS OF DEMOCRACY
Turkish National Security Council (MGK) said threat of terrorism would be eliminated on the basis of democracy. A statement released at the end of the meeting of MGK said the Council had decided to form a new structure in order to strengthen the coordination in the fight against terrorism.

CHARITY FRAUD IN EU REPORT
A progress report prepared by the European Union on Turkey mentioned a fraud in a Germany-based charity run by a number of Turkish nationals. The report says the fraud in the charity, Deniz Feneri e.V., is the biggest of its kind in German history and it tells about ramifications in Turkey: "Lack of a parliamentary committee on expenditures of the public offices gives way to an ineffective control."

FENERBAHCE: COULD NOT BE SAVED BY HOME
Turkey's Fenerbahce football team took crushing defeat at the hands of Arsenal of England in a European Champions League group game. The Canaries lost the home game in Istanbul 2-5 to kneel down at the Sukru Saracoglu Stadium before any of their rivals for the first time since November 2005.

DARGEROUS ESCALATION
Demonstrations, staged after claims that the head of the terrorist organization Abdullah Ocalan was maltreated in prison on Imrali island, have become the current issue. In Istanbul, three cars, a supermarket and a public health care center were set on fire. The terrorist organization PKK is suspected in such an attack on the Turkish Embassy in Finnish capital Helsinki. Tension mounted to its highest level in Dogubeyazit town of the eastern province of Agri where 20-year-old Ahmet Ozkan, a demonstrator, was shot dead at the demonstrations. Interior Ministry and prosecutors have launched an investigation into the incident. Around 1,000 people, who gathered in front of Democratic Society Party provincial building, chanted slogans such as "we will collapse the world without Ocalan around you."

U.S. DOLLAR HITS 27-MONTH HIGH
Problems in Hungary and Ukraine have brought several problems --such as the current account deficit that was earlier neglected by the foreigners-- into the forefront. U.S. dollar rocketed over 1.57 YTL, a 27-month high in Turkey, as hedge funds started sales in developing countries.

CRISIS DELAY REAL ESTATE PROJECTS
Global financial turmoil has dealt its first blow in Turkey to real estate industry. Several companies that do not want any change in cash position have shelved new real estate projects "for now."

The Constitutional Court announced its detailed decision regarding a ruling to reverse a law adopted in the parliament that would have allowed wearing headscarves at university campuses. The court said that the amendment made features of the Republic nonfunctional. The decision said the amendment made to articles 10 and 42 of the Constitution was against the principle of secularism.

Fenerbahce soccer club of Turkey was defeated by Arsenal of England 2-5 in the European Champions League Group G match in Istanbul. Two goals by Arsenal in the first 11 minutes of the first half demoralized Fenerbahce. The match ended with defeat of Fenerbahce at their home ground, Kadikoy.
