Steps Needed To Improve Turkey's International Reliability, OECD's Turkey Desk Chief

BRUSSELS - Turkey Desk Chief of Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) said on Monday that it was important for Turkey to take serious steps that would improve its international reliability.
Speaking at a conference on Turkey-EU relations, OECD`S Turkey Desk Chief Rauf Gonenc said that Turkey`s growth might slow down next year due to the global financial crisis.
"Every serious step that will increase Turkey`s reliability at international level is of great importance under current conditions," Gonenc said.
Gonenc also said that Turkey`s talks with International Monetary Fund (IMF) should be concluded positively and the country should carry on with an IMF program, especially under the present conditions.
He said that IMF should closely watch Turkish economy and report the situation to the world within the framework of a certain program, even though the program did not envisage any financial support.
"Because, when there is not such a reporting process, Turkey may not have the same transparency, Gonenc said.
