Abeylegesse Of Turkey Qualifies For Semifinals In 1,500 Meter Olympic Athletics

ATHENS - Elvan Abeylegesse of Turkey qualified on Tuesday for the semifinals in 1,500 meter Olympic women's athletics in the Athens 2004 Olympic Games.
Abeylegesse ran 1,500 meters in 4.06.42 seconds, ranked the fifth and qualified for the semifinals.
The second round will be held on Thursday.
After the race, Abeylegesse said, ''I forgot yesterday, and I was so relieved today. So, I decided to join this race. I started to run faster in the last 150 meters as my coach has instructed. I couldn't understand why I lost yesterday. And, I will try to do my best in 1,500 meter.''
Abeylegesse placed 12th in women's 5,000 meter on Monday.
