ISTANBUL - Turkey`s energy minister left for Switzerland on Monday to attend a ceremony which will take place on the occasion of the operation of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), the world`s largest and highest-energy particle accelerator.
Prior to his departure, Turkish Energy & Natural Resources Minister Hilmi Guler told reporters at Ataturk Airport in Istanbul that they were working on Turkey`s membership to the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN).
LHC is a gigantic scientific instrument near Geneva, where it spans the border between Switzerland and France about 100 m underground. It is a particle accelerator used by physicists to study the smallest known particles ? the fundamental building blocks of all things.
