Gul: It Is An Honor For Turkey To Be Non-permanent Member Of Unsc

KIRSEHIR - Turkish President Abdullah Gul said on Saturday that it was an honor to undertake such a responsibility as being a non-permanent member of UN Security Council.
Turkey accessed to an executive board which governed the world, added Gul who spoke to reporters in central Anatolian province of Kirsehir.
Turkey won two-thirds of votes (equal to 151 votes) in the voting on Friday, and secured a non-permanent seat at the UN Security Council in the Western European and Others Group. Turkey will be a non-permanent member of the council for the term 2009-2010.
Gul said that it was a big success to be elected to UNSC.
Noting that Turkey would undertake big responsibilities from now on, Gul said that Turkey would serve world peace, and contribute to solution of important problems of the world. Gul added that Turkey would also have the opportunity to explain its own theses.
Gul reminded that UNSC focused on solution of problems such as wars, terrorism and starvation besides the political issues.
