Foreign Officials Congratulate Turkey's Non-permanent Membership To Unsc

UNITED NATIONS/ANKARA - Foreign officials congratulated Turkey which was elected non-permanent member to UN Security Council on Friday's voting.
Turkey won two-thirds of votes (equal to 151 votes) in the voting, and secured a non-permanent seat at the UN Security Council in the Western European and Others Group. Turkey will be a non-permanent member of the council for the term 2009-2010.
John Sawers, British permanent representative to UN, expressed belief that Turkey would fulfill its mission perfectly in UNSC. Sawers congratulated Turkey, and said that Turkey was an example country which showed how democracy worked in Muslim countries. Sawers added that Turkey was an active country in its region.
Ingibjorg Solrun Gisladottir, foreign minister of Iceland which lost the elections, also congratulated Turkey, and said that Turkey had a very effective diplomacy. Gisladottir expressed belief that Turkey would fulfill a good mission in UNSC.
Jean-Maurice Ripert, France's permanent representative to UN, stressed that Turkey was an important country, and France had important relations with Turkey.
Alejandro D. Wolff, U.S. permanent representative to UN, welcomed Turkey's membership and said that the next two years would be very busy.
Also Italian Embassy in Ankara congratulated Turkish government with sincerity.
