ISTANBUL - Turkish Foreign Minister said on Saturday that member countries of the Arab League strongly supported Turkey's bid for a non-permanent seat at the UN Security Council.
Foreign Minister Ali Babacan replied to questions after the First Foreign Ministers' Meeting of Turkish-Arab Cooperation Forum in Istanbul.
Upon a question on the support expressed during the meeting by Syrian and Algerian Ministers for Turkey's candidacy for a non-permanent seat at the UN Security Council, Babacan said Turkey surely received support from Arab countries on this issue.
"The Council of Ministers of the Arab League has also taken a decision to support Turkey's membership. However, the final decisions will be taken individually by the countries. We are thankful for this strong support," Babacan said.
Replying to a question on the precautions taken in the fight against terrorism, Babacan said there were various instruments to be used in such fight.
"These can be listed as military instruments, diplomacy, commercial contacts and economic and socio-cultural instruments. We have to fight with the terrorist organization by using each of these instruments at the right time, in the right amount and within the framework of a certain strategy," Babacan said.
Babacan also said that a country could not succeed in the fight against terrorism on its own. He said international cooperation, solidarity and a joint political will would provide a definite solution.
