WASHINGTON D.C. - A female executive will soon start directing the relations between Turkey and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for the first time.
Rachel Van Elken will succeed Lorenzo Giorgianni who had been acting as IMF's Turkey Desk Chief for the last 3 years.
Upon the completion of Giorgianni's term of office, Elken will become the new desk chief, however, it is not clear yet when she will officially start her new post, sources told A.A.
Elken, who is an experienced economist of the Fund, is widely known for her expertise in EU adhesion process, banking and economic growth.
Elken has actively taken part in the EU adhesion processes of countries from the eastern and central Europe.
Officials say that Elken will contribute to Turkey's EU process as she has remarkable knowledge regarding the EU process and the Turkish economy.
