Turkish President Says Turkey Has Made Progress And Will Make More After EU Membership

JYVASKYLA - Turkish President Abdullah Gul said on Thursday that Turkey had made progress and would make more progress after becoming a European Union (EU) member.
"Today`s Turkey is not the one in the past. And Turkey will be different than today`s when it becomes an EU member," Gul told a conference organized in honor of former Finnish President Martti Ahtisaari.
Gul said Turkey was a country which rapidly became modern and made significant changes on its way to EU membership. Gul said Turkey`s accession would contribute to the EU as well.
"Our relations has always been based on win-win experience. I deeply believe that it will continue so in the future," he said.
"We should not forget the need for cooperation despite challenges," he added.
Following his speech at the conference, Gul headed to Estonia for a two-day formal visit.
