IRBIL - An official from the regional administration in north of Iraq said Wednesday that the terrorist organization PKK`s recent attacks in Turkey aimed to hurt relations between Turkey and his administration.
In an exclusive interview with the AA, Necirvan Barzani said that they were watching with concern the recent terrorist attacks in Turkey.
Our stance towards the terrorist activities are very clear, Barzani noted.
We try to prevent terrorist PKK from using the territory in north of Iraq to stage attacks on Turkey, Barzani said.
We also try to prevent PKK from using the roads, airports and hospitals in north of Iraq, Barzani stressed.
The activities of the terrorist organization PKK will have no positive effect, Barzani said.
On the contrary, the activities of PKK would make things more complicated, Barzani underscored.
We can not be held responsible for the terrorist acts of PKK in Turkey, Barzani argued.
In reference to likely cross border operations by the Turkish Armed Forces, Barzani said that nothing could be gained by cross border military operations.
The problem can not be resolved by military operations, Barzani said.
In regard to the idea of establishing a buffer zone by the Turkish Armed Forces, Barzani said that "the buffer zone would not change things. Such a zone is not practical in this mountainous area. This issue has to do with the sovereignty of Iraq."
Reminded that Turkey wants concrete steps from the regional administration in north of Iraq, Barzani said that they could not help Turkey at a time when Turkey was not holding dialogue with his administration.
"How can you seek for help when you do not even talk? Turkey does not sit at the table with us, making the possibility of helping Turkey very slim," Barzani also said.
