ANKARA - Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Wednesday that under the floating currency regime, the soaring USD did not reach worrisome levels for the Turkish economy.
Erdogan told a joint press conference with his Czech counterpart Mirek Topalanek that the fluctuations in global financial markets including Turkey was an anticipated fact, adding that he believed these fluctuations were temporary.
Erdogan said they would reassess the financial developments, following the return of State Minister Mehmet Simsek from the U.S --where he had been holding talks with IMF officials-- , and continue taking the necessary measures.
Erdogan said they predicted that the Turkish financial and banking system would not suffer the same fate with the U.S and EU, under the light of past experiences gained in 2001 crisis in Turkey, and noted that time proved them right so far.
He said, according to analysis of Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency (BBDK), there was no need to worry about the financial and banking system in Turkey.
