IZMIR - A reception was held at the German Consulate General in western province of Izmir on Tuesday to celebrate the "Day of German Unity".
Speaking at the reception, Consul General Stefan Schneider said that he is pleased to celebrate the "Day of German Unity" with friends in Izmir.
The walls of the German Consulate General are high due to security reasons, Schneider said.
However, this does not mean that the German Consulate General has alienated itself from Izmir residents, Schneider noted.
German institutions contribute to the economy and education of Izmir, Schneider said.
Schneider told the guests at the reception that a German Culture Week will be held in Izmir soon.
Schneider invited his guests to a special concert to be held by the Turkish-German Youth Symphony Orchestra on October 19.
The reception in Izmir was attended by Governor Cahit Kirac, Deputy Mayor Yusuf Ali Karaman and other dignitaries.
The Day of German Unity is a national holiday in Germany, celebrated on October 3, which commemorates the anniversary of German reunification in 1990.
