ANKARA - Turkish President Abdullah Gul who spoke to his Iraqi counterpart Jalal Talabani over the phone Saturday evening, described the recent terrorist attack on Turkish soldiers as a heinous attack on Turkish territory, and urged Iraqi authorities to prevent such attacks.
A press release issued by the Presidency Press Office said Talabani called Gul and condemned the attack.
Gul told Talabani that Turkey wanted Iraq to take the necessary measures to prevent attacks on Turkish soil from Iraq as soon as possible.
Gul said terrorists should not be allowed to ruin the positive atmosphere developing between the two countries.
Talabani also proposed a high-level security meeting between the two states.
