U.S. Planes Bomb Suspected Foreign Fighters' Bastion In Fallujah

FALLUJAH, Iraq, Aug 24 (AFP) - US planes bombed a suspected foreign fighters' hide-out near the Sunni Muslim bastion of Fallujah, in a raid sanctioned by Iraqi prime minister Iyad Allawi, the military said Tuesday.
At around 12:10 am (2010 GMT) US forces conducted a "precision strike" on a position "occupied by numerous foreign fighters, equipment and ordinance".
The strike was carried out in coordination with Allawi and the defence ministry, the statement said.
"Multiple sources of intelligence considered to be highly reliable, were used to confirm the presence of the enemy forces," it added.
A spokesman said the post was "certainly connected to a known terrorist leader", but refused to elaborate.
When asked if he was referring to Al-Qaeda's alleged chief in Iraq, Abu Mussab al-Zarqawi, the spokesman said there was more than one terror leader in Fallujah. The US military refused to comment on casualties.
In the last two months US forces have conducted several air strikes in Fallujah on suspected Zarqawi hideouts.
