Council Of Europe Warns Greek Cypriots: Do Not Block Turkish Cypriots' Trade With E.U. Members

STRASBOURG - The general assembly of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) made a call to Greek Cypriots on Wednesday and wanted all obstacles blocking Turkish Cypriots' direct trade with EU member states, as stated in the Direct Trade Regulations of the EU Commission, to be removed.
A report, prepared by German parliamentarian Joachim Horster, and titled "The Situation in Cyprus" and a related resolution were debated at the general assembly and adopted. There were 99 'yes' votes and 20 'no' votes on the report.
According to the adopted resolution, the Greek Cypriots have been asked not to place obstacles in international cultural, educational and sportive activities and student exchange programs of the Turkish Cypriots.
Referring to the new negotiations process in Cyprus, the resolution said that the opportunity for a solution in Cyprus should not be missed.
