RELIEVING STATEMENTS FROM MINISTERS
State Minister Kursad Tuzmen said Justice & Development (AK) Party government closely monitored the developments in the world economy. Tuzmen said necessary preparations were made.
State Minister Mehmet Simsek said, "Turkey`s budget and banks are strong. We have strong reserves. Turkey has a stronger ground that could not be compared with the past."

470-YEAR OLD MASTERPIECE
Portrait of Sultan Suleyman, known with the name "Suleyman the Magnificent", will be one of the most important pieces of "Islam World Works of Art" auction sale that will be made in Britain on October 8.
The oil painting made by Italian painter Tizianao Vecellio is expected to be offered for sale for 300,000 sterling.

WE WILL DESTROY GANGS COMPLETELY, INTERIOR MINISTER
Pointing out to highly successful operations of Turkish security forces recently, Turkish Interior Minister Besir Atalay said that "nothing will be left in the dark." Atalay stressed that security forces would destroy gangs in Turkey completely.

ACTIVE FOREIGN POLICY HELPS ISTANBUL`S STAR SHINE
As Turkey receives high global attention with its active foreign policy recently, the province of Istanbul is becoming well publicized. Turkish authorities prefer Istanbul for many international activities. The number of bilateral and peace meetings in Istanbul is rapidly rising. Turkish Petroleum Pipeline Corporation (BOTAS) announced that the price of natural gas used by residences would increase by 4.55 percent as of October 1. The price of natural gas utilized by the industry would increase by 4.69 percent as of Wednesday.

After having lost three matches in the first five weeks of the Turkcell Super League in Turkey, Fenerbahce soccer team is also going through a tough time in the European Champions League. Fenerbahce drew a tie with Ukraine`s Dinamo Kiev on Tuesday in Istanbul at Group G in European Champions League. The game ended 0-0. Fenerbahce is ranked last in Group G. Hundreds of Fenerbahce fans called for the resignation of the current Fenerbahce management following the game with Dinamo Kiev.

RAMADAN FEAST`S FIRST DAY TRAFFIC CASUALTIES: 13 KILLED
The traffic monster continued to work during the first day of the Ramadan Feast. In the past two days, 19 Turks have lost lives in traffic accidents throughout Turkey. During the same period, 164 Turks were injured in traffic accidents.

FOREIGNERS ARE WITHOUT CONTROL
As libor interest rates exceeded 5 percent in European markets, some foreign banks suspended the loans they give to private sector in Turkey.
As the foreign banks, currently in Turkey through partnership of purchase, experience the worst years in Europe and in the United States, they continue to fund their centers by collecting deposits in Turkey.
Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency (BDDK) and Savings Deposit Insurance Fund (TMSF) of Turkey remain silent.

NEW PERIOD IN PARLIAMENT
Opening of the new term of the Turkish Parliament coincides with the second day of Ramadan Feast. Participation to the general assembly meeting and cocktail is expected to be low.
Chief of Turkish General Staff Gen. Ilker Basbug and other force commanders will not attend the ceremony.

Turkish ministers do not have concerns over the impacts of the global crisis in the world. The ministers think economy of Turkey, which became stronger, will be affected by the crisis as minimum as possible.
State Minister & Deputy Prime Minister Cemil Cicek said, "developments in the world will in this or that way have impacts on Turkey. However, you should know that Turkey is the only country that could overcome this crisis in the most easiest way."

Admiral Andonis Andonyadis, who acted as the Commander of Greek Naval Forces between 2002-2005, told in his book that, "international community, and of course Turkey, recognize our air space as 6 miles. We fall into a funny situation while saying 10 miles."
Retired Admiral harshly criticized "Turkey is a threat" taboo in his book.

Yesim Ustaoglu, who won the "Golden Shell" award at the 56th International San Sebastian Film Festival in Spain with her film "Pandora`s Box" recounting the story of an alzheimer mother and her three children, said she dedicated her film to renowned literary critic and author Fethi Naci.
Ustaoglu said, "he was my friend. He was somewhat like a father. He is the source of inspiration of my film. If only he was not defeated by an illness like Alzheimer."

TURKEY CELEBRATES RAMADAN FEAST
Turks all across Turkey celebrated the arrival of the Ramadan Feast on Tuesday. Turkish President Abdullah Gul made his Ramadan Feast prayers at Ankara`s Kocatepe Mosque. Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan was in Istanbul on the first day of the Ramadan Feast. Erdogan distributed gifts and allowances to children in Istanbul. Mosques in Istanbul were full for the Ramadan Feast prayers on Tuesday morning.
