NEW YORK - The Turkish president met representatives of Turkish people living in New York and New Jersey on Saturday.
In the meeting at the Turkish House in New York, Gul called on the Turkish community in the United States to support their representatives who wanted to get involved in the U.S. politics.
Gul expressed his belief that there would be Turks among the congressmen and members of the House of Representatives in coming years.
"The more successful you are and the better you are here, the better you represent Turkey," Gul told the Turkish people.
On Turkish-U.S. relations, Gul said that two countries had a significant cooperation and underlined importance of the contributions of Turkish community living in the United States to bilateral relations.
Gul later received Meskhetian Turks living in the United States.
President Gul is expected to depart from New York on Sunday.
