AMMAN, Aug 24 (AFP) - A Jordanian has been abducted in Iraq by armed men, foreign ministry spokesman Ali Ayed said here Tuesday citing relatives after reports of his kidnapping along with a Kenyan surfaced on an Islamic website.
"The family of Nidal Taleb Kanani have informed us of his abduction by armed men during his presence in Iraq," Ayed told the state-run Petra news agency.
The foreign ministry has instructed the Jordanian embassy in Baghdad to follow up on the case and try to obtain more details, he added.
Earlier the "Brigades of Martyrs of Iraq" posted a statement on an Islamist website claiming to have kidnapped a Jordanian and a Kenyan and saying that their identities and conditions for their release would follow soon.
"A brigade of the martyrs of Fallujah kidnapped a Jordanian and a Kenyan, two agents (working for the American forces) in an ambush as they returned to an American base to supply the invasion forces with food," said the group.
"The names and pictures of the two men, as well as demands for their release will soon be revealed in a video, in preparation," added the statement, whose authenticity could not be verified.
