Turkish fighter jets hit PKK targets

PRESSTV - Turkish warplanes have hit suspected Kurdish Workers' Party (PKK) positions in northern Iraq in which six insurgents are confirmed killed.

The strike took pace on Thursday night in Siirt province in southeastern Turkey, said Turkish General Staff officers on Friday.

Sixteen targets in the mountainous Qandil region near the Iraqi border with Iran were hit in the air raids that began around 10 pm, the official said.

"The warplanes returned safely to their bases after successfully completing their mission," the source said, confirming at least six PKK rebels were killed in the attacks.

Turkey believes that thousands of separatist PKK rebels use northern Iraq to stage attacks inside Turkey and it has conducted several cross-border operations over the past 12 months to hit the rebels' hideouts.
