ANKARA - Only one participant, the Russian-Turkish "Atomstroyexport-Inter Rao-Park Teknik" Consortium, submitted an offer for the construction and operation of Turkey`s first nuclear power plant in a tender held in capital Ankara on Wednesday.
The Turkish Electricity Trading & Contracting Inc. (TETAS) launched the tender process for the construction and operation of a nuclear power plant in Akkuyu region of the southern province of Mersin.
Atomstroyexport-Inter Rao-Park Teknik Consortium (Russia-Turkey), AECL Atomic Energy Of Canada Limited (Canada), Suez Tractebel (France-Belgium), Unit Investment N.V. (the Netherlands), Hattat Holding-Hema Consortium (Turkey) and Ak Enerji (Turkey) were the six participants that submitted closed envelopes in today`s tender.
Only Atomstroyexport-Inter Rao-Park Teknik Consortium`s envelope included an offer, while the other five did not submit any offers for the tender, officials said.
Atomstroyexport-Inter Rao-Park Teknik Consortium`s offer will now be assessed by Turkey`s Atomic Energy Agency (TAEK) in terms of technical requirements. If TAEK approves the offer, it will then be submitted for the approval of the Council of Ministers.
Today`s tender was the fourth one held for the construction and operation of Turkey`s first nuclear power plant. The previous three tenders had failed.
