KOCAELI - The attorney of Retired Turkish General Hursit Tolon, Ilkay Sezer, said Wednesday that "Tolon has health problems. We will ask for his release from prison."
In an exclusive interview with the AA, Ilkay Sezer said that Tolon was taken to the Kocaeli State Hospital on Wednesday morning.
"Mr. Tolon has health problems. We are going to ask for his release from prison," Sezer stressed.
"We demand that Mr. Tolon be tried without remaining in prison. Tolon has high blood pressure and prostate problems. He earlier went through a heart surgery. Tolon has a problem with his heart. After having been placed in prison, Mr. Tolon lost 12-13 kilograms. Anyone who is in this state of health can not have a normal immune system," Sezer noted.
Tolon has been taken back to prison after receiving medical care on Wednesday.
Hursit Tolon was placed in prison as part of the ongoing "Ergenekon" case.
An alleged criminal network that came to be known as "Ergenekon" was revealed after police seized hand grenades, TNT explosives and fuses in a shanty house in Istanbul on June 12th, 2007. Several Turkish figures, including retired senior army officers, were detained and sent to prison within the scope of the investigation.
The indictment regarding "Operation Ergenekon" was filed at an Istanbul court, indicting 86 people on charges of attempting to overthrow Turkish government. The 2,455-page indictment includes 86 suspects, most of whom are in prison.
An Istanbul court will hold the first hearing of the case on October 20th.
