ATHENS, Aug 23 (AFP) - Greek police have seized some 700 kilograms (1550 pounds) of cocaine, the largest haul ever in the country's history, and arrested six people, officials said Monday.
Three of the six suspects are alleged to have taken the drugs on board their sailing yacht in the Caribbean island of Martinique in July.
They had begun unloading a large amount of their haul in Kalamata in southwestern Greece with the help of three other suspects early Monday when the police pounced.
Four of those arrested were Greek nationals, along with an Albanian and an Italian. Among them was one woman.
Greek authorities said they had carried out the seizure and arrest with the help of French, Italian, Spanish and US law enforcement officials.
