KAMPALA, Aug 23 (AFP) - Twelve people are feared dead after their overloaded boat capsized Monday on a lake bordering Uganda and Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), local officials said.
"Today at around 11:00 am (0800 GMT), a boat (...) in western Uganda`s Kibale district (...) capsized with 15 people on board," Kamala sub country vice-chairman Ambrose Amumpe told AFP by telephone from the shores of Lake Albert, which straddles the Ugandan-DRC border.
"Three people were rescued, while three bodies have since been recovered," he said, adding that the military and the local community had combined efforts to search for other survivors.
Police in the capital Kampala said it had not got the information about the accident, but promised that it had sent officers to investigate the reports.
