BONN, Aug 23 (AFP) - The roof of the Bonn opera house caught fire early Monday, spreading to the stage and the wings and causing considerable damage but no casualties, firefighters said after bringing the blaze under control.
Few people were inside the opera in the former German capital, which is observing a summer recess, when the fire broke out, they said.
Repairs are expected to last until mid-September, scotching a planned recital of the baritone Thomas Hampson on September 8.
The opera house was also hit by fire 20 years ago during a performance of Serge Prokofiev's "The Fiery Angel."
