First International Istanbul Ballet Competition

ISTANBUL - Kadir Okurer of Turkey has won the "Istanbul Grand Prix Award" in the First International Istanbul Ballet Competition.
Christina Terentieva of Moldova was ranked first in the senior category while Davida Dato of Italy came on the first place in the junior category.
Ballets and ballerinas from Turkey, Moldova, Kazakhstan, Bulgaria, Japan and Italy participated in the competition.
Dancers will be given their awards at a gala night to be held in Istanbul on Saturday.
Vladimir Vasiliev, former director of the Bolshoi Theatre and his wife Ekaterina Maximova, prima ballerina of the Bolshoi will be the honorary guests of the night.
Leading ballet dancers Viengsay Valdes Herrera and Romel Frometa from Cuban National Ballet, and Vanessa Feuillate and Roman Mikhalev from Bordeaux National Ballet will perform during the gala.
The competition will be held once every two years, and it will help promotion of Turkish ballet, which has only a 60-year story, in the world.
