Representatives From 17 Countries To Convene In Turkey's Aegean City

IZMIR - Executives from 17 countries will gather together in an international Mediterranean cities meeting in a Turkish Aegean city at the end of September, the chamber of commerce in the city said on Friday.
Representatives from 17 countries would convene in the First International Mediterranean Trade & Port Cities Symposium in the Aegean city of Izmir between September 25th and 26th, Ekrem Demirtas, the chairman of the Izmir Chamber of Commerce, told a press conference.
Demirtas said the meeting would bring together tradesmen and academicians to boost trade, cultural relations and tourism among Mediterranean-littoral cities.
"Finance Minister Kemal Unakitan will participate in the meeting," he also said.
Rifat Hisarciklioglu, the chairman of the Union of Chambers & Commodity Exchanges in Turkey (TOBB); and Murat Yalcintas, the chairman of the Association of Mediterranean Chambers of Commerce & Industry (ASCAME) and the head of the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce; would also attend the symposium at the Swiss Hotel, Demirtas said.
"We plan to hold the symposium in Izmir every year, enabling the inclusion of the symposium in international congress schedule by organizing it for three years without interruption," Demirtas also said.
Demirtas also said that efforts were under way to host North-South Economic Forum between November 4th and 5th, and added that President Abdullah Gul was expected to participate in the forum.
