SUMMIT TO LIQUIDATE TERRORISM
Higher Board for Countering Terrorism will convene on Thursday with the participation of Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Chief of General Staff Gen. Ilker Basbug. The board will discuss a new action plan and a set of measures to be taken to fight terrorism.
EU PROCESS SHOULD NOT BE A MERE TOOL FOR EVERDAY POLITICS, SAYS BABACAN
Foreign Minister Ali Babacan said Turkey`s European Union membership bid should not played on as a mere leverage for everyday political haggling. "Avoiding dialogue does not have a place in modern democracy," Babacan told a conference Tuesday on developing relations between non-governmental organizations in Turkey and in the EU. The foreign minister said the two major opposition parties refused to discuss a draft national program for EU-oriented legal reforms.

"PROSECUTOR FULFILLS HIS DUTIES"
Upon complaints, Justice Minister Mehmet Ali Sahin launched an inquiry into Ergenekon prosecutor Zekeriya Oz. But the minister was annoyed when the inquiry was covered by the media as "investigation into the prosecutor".
Sahin said Zekeriya Oz fulfilled his duties.
"He is shown as if he were a criminal, which I think is not proper," he said.
OIL PRICES BELOW 100 USD, GAS PRICE STILL THE SAME
Oil prices plunged to 99.3 USD from 147 USD since July 11th, the date of historic peak in prices. This figure caused hopes of deduction for Turkish drivers who consume world`s most expensive gas. But they all failed. Despite 32 percent fall in oil prices, gasoline prices dropped 6.6 percent only and diesel fuel was cheaper 12.5 percent.

72 TRILLION FROM THREE BOND CHEATINGS
It has been revealed that Dogan Holding sold the bonds it got from a screen company, which he established in Britain, to his companies that are open to public. Thus, he gained some 60 million USD of unjust money.
The Capital Market Board of Turkey has found out that Aydin Dogan, the head of the holding, established screen companies in Britain like Falcon Purchasing, Shawcliff Trading, Sortal Trading and Eurozone Trading Limited in 1997 to buy bonds for his newspapers. The companies belonged to his wife Isil Dogan and daughters. He brought the bonds and sold it to his companies that are open to the public, and acquired 60 million USD of unjust money.
ZAPATERO DUE TO TURKEY FOR FAST-BREAKING DINNER
The Justice & Development (AK) Party, which is hosting a European leader at a fast-breaking dinner every Ramadan, will host Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero this year. Zapatero has accepted Premier Recep Tayyip Erdogan`s invitation for a fast-breaking dinner and will be in Istanbul on September 15th.

EMRE CONTROVERSY AGAIN AHEAD OF TURKEY`S MATCH AGAINST BELGIUM
Turkish national team`s captain Emre Belozoglu`s mother fainted when she heard journalist and sports commentator Hincal Uluc criticizing her son harshly on TV.
Uluc described Fenerbahce`s midfielder as "antipathetic, unprincipled" and he said, "media hates him. Fans dislike him. Is captaincy of the Turkish national football team so cheap?"
Emre Belozoglu, who said he would sue Uluc, left his team`s camp on permission from coach Fatih Terim.
Terim also lashed out at journalists and said, "you could not learn how to motivate these guys before a match."
PARDON FOR UNIVERSITY STUDENTS
National Education Minister Huseyin Celik said university pardon to lift suspensions of 600,000 students was on its way.
"The pardon will cover the year 2005 and later," Celik said.

20 NEGOTIATION PROCESS IN 45 YEARS
Turkish and Greek Cypriot leaders will sit at a table on Thursday for a new comprehensive negotiation process. However, more than 20 full-fledged negotiations held since 1963 --when the Cyprus Republic was demolished by the Greek Cypriots-- have not been a solution to Cyprus problem.
TURKEY`S OPPONENT: BELGIUM
The Turkish national football team will play their second match in the World Cup 2010 qualifying round in Istanbul tonight. Turkey will host Belgium at the Sukru Saracoglu Stadium. The match will kick-off at 9 p.m. Turkey aim to win the match and advance on their path to Africa without any point loss.

OPPOSITION LEADER WARNS PREMIER ON FREEDOM OF PRESS
Leader of the opposition Nationalist Movement Party (MHP), Devlet Bahceli, warned Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan over freedom of press and expression: "No ruling party in the past had ever made any gain from attempts to limit freedom of press and expression. Those who long for dictators had never been so out of control."
JUSTICE MINISTER GREENLIGHTS TRIAL FOR 36 UNDER ARTICLE 301
Justice Minister Mehmet Ali Sahin approved the prosecution of 36 people under Article 301 of the Turkish Penal Code, which criminalizes insulting "the Turkish nation" and the state. The article was amended earlier this year and the justice minister was held responsible to greenlight prosecutors before they could press any charges related with the article.

Devlet Bahceli, chairman of opposition Nationalist Movement Party (MHP), harshly criticized Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
"Turkey has never been ruled by such a stained government who sees fraud, corruption and illegality as a right or privilege," Bahceli said.
FIRST TURKISH DIPLOMAT TO SPEAK ARMENIAN
Consulate Arif Eser Tosun was sent to Armenian course last year as part of the plan to develop relations with Armenia. Torun accompanied President Abdullah Gul at his visit to Yerevan last weekend. Torun went to Yerevan from Jerusalem upon a special directive and participated in Foreign Minister Ali Babacan`s talks with Armenian officials.

PRESIDENT APPOINTS RECTORS TO 23 NEWLY FOUNDED UNIVERSITIES
President Abdullah Gul appointed rectors to 23 newly founded universities. Sixteen of these rectors were at the same time among the scholars who had signed a declaration that asked for "freedom for headscarf" in universities. Twelve rectors that Gul appointed were on the top of the list which was submitted by the Board of Higher Education (YOK).
TURKEY TO TAKE ON BELGIUM IN WORLD CUP QUALIFIER
Turkish national football team are set to host Belgium in Istanbul`s Sukru Saracoglu Stadium tonight in their second match in the 2010 World Cup qualifying round after a 0-2 win against Armenia last Saturday. The game will kick-off at 9:00 p.m. local time. Stephane Lannoy of France will referee the match.

YEAR-END CONSUMER PRICES FORECAST DOWN TO 10.72 P.C.
According to a survey carried out by the Central Bank twice a month with participation of financial and real sector representatives, the year-end consumer prices index expectations dropped from 11.04 to 10.72 percent. The year-end current balance is expected to climb to 51.3 billion USD. It was earlier projected as 50.7 billion USD.
SIX-MONTH BANKING PROFIT IS 8.2 BLN YTL
The net profit of the banking sector was up only 1.1 percent in the first six months of the year when compared with last year. The profit of the banking sector was up to 8.2 billion new Turkish liras (YTL), from 8.1 billion YTL.
