Turkey's Foreign Minister Meets Party Leader For National Program

ANKARA - The Turkish foreign minister met on Monday a political party leader to discuss Turkey's new national program.
Turkey's Foreign Minister Ali Babacan, who is also the chief negotiator for the European Union (EU), had a meeting with Ufuk Uras, the chairman of the Freedom & Solidarity Party (ODP) and an MP, in Ankara.
Babacan presented the draft national program to Uras and briefed him on the draft.
"We (the government) want to shape up the program under a compromise," Babacan told reporters after the half-an-hour meeting at the parliament.
Babacan underlined importance of views of political parties regarding the national program.
"Some of these reforms will be brought up in the parliament and be re-discussed," Babacan said.
Babacan also said that Uras would express his views after going through the draft.
Also speaking to reporters, Uras said that he had some priorities like judicial reform, social policies and fundamental rights and freedoms, and underscored importance of taking concrete steps in these areas.
