BAKU - Turkey's energy minister arrived in the Azerbaijani capital of Baku on Monday.
Turkish Energy & Natural Resources Minister Hilmi Guler will participate in a conference on "oil and gas potential in Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan: energy, economy and ecology cooperation strategy."
"I will discuss energy cooperation between Turkey and Azerbaijan, and ways to enhance this cooperation," he told reporters at the Haydar Aliyev Airport in Baku.
Guler said that talks were under way to transfer Azerbaijani natural gas to Greece via Turkey, and expressed his belief that the Nabucco project would also be implemented, just as Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline project and Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum natural gas project.
The Turkish energy minister said that he would discuss with his Greek counterpart the project to transport Azerbaijani natural gas to Greece and Europe via Turkey.
The Nabucco pipeline is a planned natural gas pipeline that will transport natural gas from Turkey to Austria, via Bulgaria, Romania, and Hungary. It will run from Erzurum in Turkey to Baumgarten an der March, a major natural gas hub in Austria. This pipeline is a diversion from the current methods of importing natural gas solely from Russia. The project is backed by the European Union and the United States.
