ANKARA - Turkish Foreign Minister Ali Babacan met on Monday with Zeki Sezer, leader of the opposition Democratic Left Party (DSP), and briefed him on Turkey's national program which covers a series of legal reforms designed to comply with the European Union standards.
"As the head of the team which drafted this program, I would like to meet with opposition leaders to discuss the program," Babacan told reporters.
The foreign minister also said he was ready to meet with the leaders of the other two major opposition parties, the Republican People's Party (CHP) and the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP).
"This is also a search for a mutual understanding as consultation and dialogue are basic instruments in a democracy," Babacan said.
CHP and MHP have refused to talk with Babacan over the EU-oriented draft program.
