ROME, Aug 20 (AFP) - A correspondent for a weekly Italian newspaper has been reported missing by Italy's diplomatic mission in Baghdad, the foreign ministry said Friday.
Enzo Baldoni, correspondent of the newspaper Diario della Settimane, was last heard from late Thursday, a spokesman said.
The embassy noticed his absence during a routine check to make sure of the whereabouts of Italian nationals, he said.
But Enrico Deaglio, editor of Diario della Settimane, said there was no cause for alarm.
He told ANSA news agency Baldoni had remained voluntarily after an aid column had returned to Baghdad.
"Baldoni is in touch with an Italian non-governmental organisation operating there and it may be that he is with them and that they are having communications problems because of the present situation", said Deaglio.
