Majority of Americans Still Think Iraq Had WMDs, Poll Finds

A new survey released Friday found 54 percent of Americans continued to believe Iraq possessed illegal weapons before the invasion, despite no such arms being discovered. That figure fell six points compared with a March poll by the University of Maryland and Knowledge Networks.

The August survey of 733 adults also found declining support for the war: 46 percent called it the right choice, down from 55 percent in March, while 49 percent said it was wrong. Support for withdrawing US troops climbed to 53 percent, up sharply from 39 percent earlier in the year.
